So you’ve decided to embrace the cooler temperatures of winter and head out on a skiing trip. Congratulations! It should make for a cool time. If you’ve never gone skiing before, however, you’re probably already starting to feel a little bit apprehensive about the whole thing. What kind of equipment will you need to bring? What equipment can you rent at the ski lodge? How exactly do you prepare to spend so much time in the snow? Luckily, you’ve come to the right place. Just follow this simple ski trip checklist.

Make sure you have the usual travel amenities and requirements. Confirm the hotel or lodge reservations, make sure that you have a rental car waiting for you, and be sure that you know what time to arrive at the airport, if you’re traveling by plane. What you bring along with you will depend on how you’re traveling. For example, if you have skis to bring, it will be harder to travel with them on a flight, so you might just rent them when you arrive at the new destination. Bring along all of the usual things you would on any extended trip away from home.

Call the ski lodge and see what equipment you can rent there. If you’re confused about what equipment you should bring, simply call ahead and see what they have available for you to rent. This should make life easier. If there is any way to reserve some of the equipment, it might not be a bad idea, but you also want to make sure that it fits, so it’s probably better to wait until you get to the lodge itself.

Bring as much as you can with you. To cut down on rental costs, make sure you pack enough ski equipment with you as you can. If you’re driving, you can simply pack all of your ski equipment with you, but if you’re traveling by plan, you’ll want to stick to smaller items, like goggles, gloves, and other ski wear. Also, you can save money by borrowing ski equipment from friends – if they invited you on the trip, they should be willing to help provide you with equipment.

Safety! Make sure you don’t skimp on the safety when you travel on a ski trip. Yes, it’s a vacation, but that doesn’t mean you’ll want to make things more dangerous than they have to be. Remember your basic skiing safety rules and if you have any questions, ask an instructor.
