Are You a Ski Lover or Hater?

Love or hate?

Love or hate?

Skiing is sometimes known as a “love it or hate it” sport – while some people love the idea of briskly sweeping down the slopes, others find the equipment awkward and the movements difficult. So which is it? And what kind of skier are you – the person who can really develop a passion for it, or the ski-hater who would much rather be in the lodge sipping hot chocolate? Let’s find out.

Are you frustrated simply because you’re a novice?

Sometimes, certain skill sets require that you put in a lot of initial effort without much reward. Skiing can be like this for the less athletically-inclined: it seems like the only way for skiing to be fun is for you to be a master at it. But finding out if you really like this hobby will take some persistence. Some people initially dislike a hobby, only to find they love it after they become more proficient. If you’ve only been frustrated with skiing because it seems like all wipeouts and no fun, think about what it might be like if you were a good skier.

Is there a winter hobby you enjoy more?

Maybe your friends are avid skiers and, to play along, you’ve found yourself becoming quite the skier yourself. But is it really all that enticing to you, or is there something else calling you in those winter months? If your attitude is more suited for the slowness and camaraderie of ice-fishing, maybe you’ve simply chosen the wrong hobby. You might be acting like a ski lover, but you might have bigger fish to fry.

Is the hobby worth the money?

For some people, renting or buying ski equipment is a no-brainer; it’s what they love to do and if their hobby is a little expensive sometimes, they don’t mind. For others, however, the attraction of skiing isn’t so strong. If you’d rather keep that few hundred bucks in your pocket and not have the experience of skiing, that’s probably the route you should go. Some people wouldn’t miss a good ski run for the world; for other people, they couldn’t care less.

Ultimately, be sure to make your own decisions about the hobbies you choose. Even if your friends love a hobby, you might want to indulge them from time to time, but try to gravitate to the hobbies that really offer you satisfaction.

    Good post!

Early on in my life I was more the hater because of the mastery part. I wouldn’t say hate, but more like uninterested. When offered the chance to go night skiing or build a fire out on the lake I chose, fire on lake. However, now it is decidedly ski lover.

The competency block is a huge factor.
